Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA): Upcoming Events and Important Deadlines

A professional development workshop, a special issue appetizer event, a paper development workshop, and a special issue deadline.

Together with other members of the NCA Development Team, I organize workshops to help researchers use Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) and publish NCA papers. Three of those workshops and an important deadline are coming up.

1. Professional Development Workshop

The first workshop on the list is the Professional Development Workshop at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting 2024, which I am organizing together with Jan Dul and Ricarda Bouncken. The workshop entitled “Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA): Core Concepts and Latest Developments” will take place on August 10 from 08:00 to 10:00 local time in the Lucerne II room of the Swissotel Chicago. We will teach you the core concepts of NCA and discuss its latest developments. The workshop will be part of the Academy of Management Annual Meeting, which is a conference for management researchers. You can only attend the workshop if you are a registered conference participant.

2. Special Issue “Appetizer” Event

Together with Patrycja Klimas,  Ricarda Bouncken, and Jan Dul, I am editing a special issue for the Journal of Business Research, entitled “Must-have or nice-to-have? Using Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) to advance strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship research”. On Friday, September 6, we organize an online “appetizer” event in which we provide information about the special issue and give preliminary feedback on your article ideas.

If you are interested in joining the session, please prepare a structured abstract (450-550 words) under the following specific headings: Introduction (e.g., theoretical setting), Objective/s, Research design, Results (if you have them already), Main Contributions, Alignment with SI assumptions.

3. Virtual Paper Development Workshop

I am also excited to announce a paper development workshop designed for management scholars interested in submitting their research to the special issue entitled “Must-have or nice-to-have? Using Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) to advance strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship research”. The virtual workshop will take place on November 20 from 09:00 to 12:00 CET. The deadline to submit a draft paper is Monday, November 4. More information about the workshop will be available later this summer is available here.

4. Special Issue Submission Deadline

The submission window for the special issue entitled “Must-have or nice-to-have? Using Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) to advance strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship research." opens on October 1, 2024. The submission window closes on January 31, 2025. If you are considering submitting a paper to the special issue, I kindly invite you to join the virtual paper development workshop in November. You can submit your paper to the Journal of Business Research here.
